Hotels Near the Louvre: The Best Areas to Stay on Foot
Updated October 28, 2026
If you are looking at hotels near the Louvre, the real decision is the area, not the hotel. We don't sell rooms or earn from any hotel, so there are no stars or made-up prices here: just six neighborhoods less than 2 km from the museum, the straight-line distance to the Pyramid, the metro line that drops you at the door and what you gain or lose in each. The rule of thumb: if the hotel is on line 1 or line 7, you reach the Louvre with no change, because both stop at Palais-Royal–Musée du Louvre.
-
1. Palais-Royal and around the Louvre
1st arrondissement · 0.2 km
The 1st arrondissement around the museum, between rue de Rivoli, the Palais-Royal garden and rue Saint-Honoré. It is the only area where you walk to the Pyramid in five minutes and can go back to the hotel in the middle of the day. In return, it is the busiest area on the list, because it is the Louvre's own doorstep. Metro Palais-Royal–Musée du Louvre (lines 1 and 7) and Pyramides (7 and 14).
Quartier du Palais-Royal, 75001 Paris

2. Saint-Germain-des-Prés
6th arrondissement · 0.8 km
The Left Bank, right opposite the Louvre: about 800 m in a straight line, crossing the Seine on the Pont des Arts, which is pedestrian-only. It is the 6th arrondissement, on the same bank as the Musée d'Orsay, which is a stroll away. What you give up: line 4, which serves Saint-Germain-des-Prés, does not stop at the Louvre, so by metro you have to change; on foot you don't need to.

3. Les Halles and Montorgueil
1st and 2nd arrondissements · 0.8 km
East of the Louvre, about 850 m away: the Châtelet–Les Halles area and the pedestrian rue Montorgueil. Its advantage is transport: Châtelet–Les Halles is the hub of RER A, B and D, and the RER B runs straight to Charles de Gaulle airport, useful if you arrive or leave with luggage. Two stops on line 1 (Châtelet, Louvre-Rivoli, Palais-Royal) or a ten-minute walk separate you from the Louvre. The station is one of the busiest on the network, with the noise and bustle that brings.

4. Opéra and the Grands Boulevards
2nd and 9th arrondissements · 1.3 km
To the north, around the Palais Garnier, 1.25 km from the Pyramid. Avenue de l'Opéra runs in a straight line down to the Louvre, so it is about a 15-minute walk, and line 7 links Opéra station with Palais-Royal–Musée du Louvre with no change. Lines 3 and 8 also stop at Opéra, so the area is well connected to the rest of the city.
Quartier de l'Opéra, 75009 Paris
-
5. The Marais
3rd and 4th arrondissements · 1.8 km
To the east, 1.8 km away: the neighborhood of the place des Vosges, the Musée Carnavalet and the Musée Picasso. For the Louvre, the key is line 1: from Saint-Paul or Hôtel de Ville you reach Palais-Royal–Musée du Louvre without changing trains. On foot it is about 25 minutes along rue de Rivoli. It is the pick if you would rather stay near those museums and don't mind taking the metro every morning.
Le Marais, 75003 and 75004 Paris
-
6. Latin Quarter
5th arrondissement · 1.5 km
The 5th arrondissement, on the Left Bank, 1.5 km in a straight line. On foot, you cross the Île de la Cité and pass Notre-Dame and Sainte-Chapelle before reaching the Louvre along the Seine quays, a walk of about 25 minutes. By metro there is no direct line to the Louvre, so you have to change.

What to look for in a hotel near the Louvre
Three things, in this order. First, the line: a hotel by line 1 or line 7 drops you at Palais-Royal–Musée du Louvre with no change, and line 1 also links Concorde, the Champs-Élysées, Châtelet and Bastille. Second, the walking distance: under 1 km you can walk back to the hotel for a rest, useful because a Louvre ticket does not let you leave and come back in. Third, the airport: if you land at Charles de Gaulle, the RER B to Châtelet–Les Halles leaves you two metro stops from the Louvre.
Getting from the hotel to the Louvre
A single metro, RER and train ticket costs 2.55 € in 2026 and is valid for two hours without leaving the network; the bus and tram ticket costs 2.05 €, for 90 minutes, and they cannot be used to combine metro and bus. Why we don't recommend specific hotels
We have no deals with hotels and no quality data of our own on each one, and we are not going to make up ratings. Use this page to choose the area, then compare hotels on your usual booking site, filtering by distance to Palais-Royal–Musée du Louvre station or by lines 1 and 7.
